My “I don’t own foundation” 11 Step Skin Care Routine! June 2017

Having a very rigorous skin care routine gives me the perfect illusion that I have my life all together. It really is almost an addiction and it all started in 2006, when the first High School Musical movie came out and Youtube was booming. The ultimate Coachella Queen, Vanessa Hudgens, got a Neutrogena deal and I was ob-freakin’-sessed! I’d watch all her commercials and the classic slow motion water-splash-to-the-face gave me life! I even remember her tagline in one commercial: “Prevention is key!”. So there I was, buying every Neutrogena product that Vanessa promoted at TEN years old. I even asked my relatives from the US to buy me the Neutrogena Wave, because it wasn’t available in the Philippines, which was basically this really useless product that only vibrated your skin. But if Vanessa used it, I used it.

Fast forward to twenty-one years old, I’d like to think that I know much better now. And if there’s one thing that I always get compliments on, it’s my skin. The title is a hundred percent true, I don’t own foundation. My base make-up only consists of under eye concealer and setting powder, which is an almost translucent powder, just so I don’t shine bright like a diamond. No, I did not win the genetic lottery and I am not only #blessed with great skin. This doesn’t run in the family at all, but I’ve been experimenting with skin care for eleven years now! And I just turned twenty-one. I guess you definitely reap what you sow.

So, without further a do, here’s my current life hack to GORGEOUS I GUESS A LITTLE MORE THAN ABOVE AVERAGE SKIN!

Note: I use “what I’m using” instead of “what I use” because it’s best to switch up your products based on your current skin needs and I just loooove trying them all!

What I’m using: Human Nature 100% Natural Cleansing Oil

Price: PHP 199.75

When I use it: Before your cleanser, on days where you wore makeup.

Why I love it:ย Pure oil will do the job better than any make up remover. Especially the eternally stubborn eye makeup! If you’re like me who has the sickness of overdosing on mascara every time she gets a wand in her hand, then this is the best option for you. The less rubbing you do, the less chances of lash fallout. And the sunflower oil will nourish them babies, too! The bigger the lashes, the easier you can fly away from people’s BS! #LoveLocal #SupportLocal

Human Nature is cruelty free.

What I’m using: The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

Price: PHP 595

When I use it: Everyday, morning and night.

Why I love it: I have combination skin and this is more suitable for blemished skin, but I totally broke out last December because I went ham (no put intended) on meat in dairy in the Christmas season after being a full blown vegan for a few months. My version of a break out is one visible pimple and a few tiny bumps, but it really doesn’t happen often. But just a few days into shocking my body on a meat and dairy diet, I had three visible pimples and small bumps all over my upper cheek and my chin. Action had to be done! We all know Tea Tree oil is a great antibacterial agent for the skin. This one does the job without drying out my skin too much. I won’t be repurchasing this as my next facial wash, simply because my diet has become less cruel and my skin has gotten back to normal. But I will totally run to The Body Shop if ever I have another unfortunate binge on meat and dairy!

What I’m using: St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub

Price: PHP 197

When I use it: For my combination skin, at least once a week. The oilier your skin, the more often you should scrub. Personally, I scrub my face after a night out in sweat, smoke, and heavy makeup.

Why I love it: I have been using this same facial scrub since I was 14 and I just don’t see the point in switching brands anytime soon. It’s inexpensive, made up of all natural ingredients, and does the job damn well. Plus, it’s great for blackheads.

***I have been noted that St. Ive’s is NO LONGER CRUELY FREE ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I’m gonna need some face scrub suggestions, guys!ย

What I’m using: LUSH Tea Tree Water Toner Water

Price: PHP 325 – 625 (100 – 250ml)

When I use it: Everyday, after in-shower skin care routine. May also be used as facial mist throughout the day.

Why I love it: This is just another holy grail item that I will not be replacing anytime soon. It’s a gentle toner that kicks bacteria’s ass. It’s effective enough to catch some makeup or dirt residue but gentle enough not to leave your skin feeling dry and begging for you to just put on the moisturizer already!

What I’m using: NARUKO Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Cream EX

Price: PHP 939 (Lazada)

When I use it: Everyday, after your toner has dried.

Why I love it:ย Having a very lightweight and hydrating day moisturizer is key if you want a perfect base for your make up, especially since we need to put on sunblock everyday. We obviously don’t want a heavy buildup. Naruko is an amaaazing brand from Taiwan and this product, in my opinion, is better than Laneige’s Water Bank collection. And unlike Laneige, they don’t test on animals.

What I’m using: Human Nature Safe Protect

Price: PHP 229.75 – 649.75 (50 – 200g)

When I use it: Before sun exposure

Why I love it: Personally, for me, any face sunblock is good sunblock, as long as it’s on your face. Why I love this one in particular is it’s 100% natural and it protects coral reefs! Safe Protect does not have bleaching agents that destroys Dory and Nemo’s home unlike other sunblocks. BIG CHECK!

Human Nature is cruelty free, *but not vegan because of beeswax.ย

What I’m using: Urban Decay b6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray

Price: $31 / PHP 1,535

When I use it: After toner, before makeup, or anytime throughout the day.

Why I love it: Facial mists feel like heaven! Having an oily T-zone and being the girl who is too lazy to retouch her makeup on a night out, this product is perfect for me. It gives a perfect and light base for my makeup and keeps my oily T-zone under control! I’m not one to spend too much on makeup, because it’s expensive and I only get what I need. But the skincare benefits of this is the reason why I wanted it!

What I’m using: The Body Shop Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream

Price: PHP 995

When I use it: Everyday, after toner.

Why I love it: Real talk time! I recently added this to my collection and of course, I tried it the night I bought it. Turned out my dear friend, Insomnia (she’s a bitch), wanted to party and I was up until 6:30am. I had inconsistent sleep with extremely vivid dreams up until 3pm. I woke up feeling absolutely awful and exhausted. I went into the bathroom, expecting to see an ugly ogre in the mirror, but DAYUUUUUMN, GIRL! I was glowin’! I could not understand why I woke up looking better than I would have with a good night’s sleep. I guess you can just never go wrong with vitamin E!

What I’m using: The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream

Price: PHP 850

When I use it: Everyday, before or after moisturizer.

Why I love it: The first signs of ageing appears in your neck and eyes. So, don’t neglect the neck and don’t despise the eyes! Remember, Coachella Queen said “prevention is key”. Treat your eyes to their personal moisturizer and I am positive that your older self will thank you. This is a lightweight, non greasy, almost barely scented eye cream, and again, you can’t go wrong with vitamin E!

Step 10: FACE MASK

What I’m using: My Scheming Snail Essence Hydrating & Repairing Black Mask

Price: NT$ 299 / PHP 491

When I use it: Once a week.

Why I love it: A face mask is almost like the ultimate skin care cheat code. It’s like, BAM! Nutrients, bitch!ย I got this when I went to Taiwan and it’s honestly the best face mask that I have ever used. I was sooo thrilled to see that it’s now available in the shelves of our local beauty stores, although they sell it per sheet, not per box, and it’s a little more expensive. And oh, no snails were harmed in the making of this mask!

What I’m using: My Scheming Blackhead Removal Activated Charcoal Mask Setย

Price: NT$ 399 / PHP 655

When I use it: Once a week.

Why I love it: Big black heads are something that runs in the family and it ain’t even the kind of black heads I want. ย  Anyways, what’s special about this blackhead removal is it comes in three steps. You will start off with the softener, which will make the second step, the pulling out of the blackheads with the mask, much easier, and then you end with the toner, which will close up those pores. Magic!

My Scheming is cruelty free

So, that’s basically it! Basically. I hope you learned a thing or two from my skin care routine. Let me know some of your cruelty free, holy grail products that you think that I should try!

Stay beautiful, inside and out!

  1. Hi!:) Have you tried HHN’s Strawberry Scrub? I got to try it once when my cousin let me borrow hers, and it felt wonderful and much like St. Ive’s for me. Plus points for all-natural ingredients and cruelty-free too!โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Thanks for this article. I am currently doing my own Korean skincare routine too, and the steps are similar to yours. I’ve been eyeing the Vit E eyecream from TFS for some time now, but was a bit hesitant because of the price and the lack of reviews (still need to research), but thanks to your great recommendation I just might try it out. It seems worth the price. ๐Ÿ’•

    1. Hey there, Cindy! Thank you for reading my article! ๐Ÿ™‚ And OMG, I didn’t even know Human Nature had a scrub!!! I need to try it ASAP. At first I was hesitant to buy the Vitamin E eye cream as well, since it was only a hundred bucks cheaper than a much heavier night cream. Buuuut if you have a Love Your Body card, you will get 20% off! ๐Ÿ˜‰ โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ You’re welcome!
